Significance of large institutional holdings

Disclosure requirements and notifiable interests

The Companies Act requires prompt disclosure of substantial holdings to the company itself within two business days if a share holding:

• reaches 3%;

• above 3%, changes by one whole percentage or more; or

• falls below 3%.

Market makers are exempt from the disclosure requirements to protect their positions from spoiling. In the case of fund managers, the disclosure level is 10%.
